Police are trying to trace a man who witnessed a hit-and-run accident, caught up with the offender and made him return to the scene.
The accident happened at about 10.15am on Monday, August 18, at the junction of Leagrave Road and Selbourne Road. Witnesses say a silver Vauxhall Corsa pulled out onto the roundabout, collided with a moped and then drove off.
The moped rider was knocked off his bike and suffered minor injuries to his leg and back. He was taken to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital for treatment and later released.
The Good Samaritan followed the Corsa and made the driver stop and go back to the accident scene. Police think, however, that the Corsa driver may have given false details to the moped rider, and want help to identify him.
PC Scott Chappell from the roads policing unit said: "The Good Samaritan did not leave his details with the moped rider but I believe he could provide vital evidence of the collision.
"I also have reason to believe he took a picture of the Corsa driver on his mobile phone, which could be very useful in establishing his true identity.
"If you are that person that helped, or you know who it was, please contact the police."
Anyone with any information about the crash should contact PC Chappell on 01234 842423.
