Infamous Luton jailbird Charles Bronson might be known as Britain's most dangerous prisoner, but he has shown a softer side recently in helping a Kashmiri man to build a new home for his family.
The armed robber, currently serving a life sentence at HMP Wakefield in Yorkshire, organised a fundraising day from his prison cell in aid of Khala, a poor man living with his pregnant wife and toddler in a house made of branches and a sheet in Pakistan.
A priest in Kashmir had donated land to the family, but the makeshift shelter did nothing to protect the family from wild animals such as snakes and bears.
Bronson, who was born and bred in Luton and expelled from both Challney and Icknield high schools, heard about Khala's plight from a friend and decided to do something to help.
The well-known one-time crook contacted his friends on the outside in Walsall and asked them to donate much-needed cash to the project, raising more than £400.
It was enough to build a strong home for Khala and his young family.
The thankful Kashmiri sent Bronson a note saying: "Charlie, God bless you and your friends. A very big thank you for building our home. We all hope you will be free soon. You're the best person in our lives, love Khala and family."
