Harford happy with Hatters' progress
Luton Town boss Mick Harford says he won't be getting too carried away after watching his side dump Championship outfit Plymouth Argyle out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.
Rampant Hatters put their league woes aside, as they battered their visitors for the majority of the first round tie, where goals in each half from new boys Rossi Jarvis and Tristian Plummer raised the roof at Kenilworth Road and sealed their passage into round two.
But afterwards, Harford said he will be making sure he keeps the players' feet firmly on the ground.
He said: "This was an opportunity for the lads that played against Port Vale to play again and get to know each other.
"We have the history of Luton winning this cup in 1988 so it's nice to get the season off to a Carling Cup victory in a bit of style.
"I was delighted with the performance, but we won't get carried away. We managed to keep a clean sheet and I'm delighted with the way we ran about.
"I can see the signs of a team evolving and getting better together as a group, but it's one game that we've won.
"We've only been together a short amount of time and we're getting to know each other as characters, personalities and players. I hope we grow very quickly and have some success.
"We've tried to put together a committed bunch who work hard, allied with the ability that was on show this evening.
"They're genuine lads who want to do well for this football club."
Big Mick yet again singled out captain Kevin Nicholls for praise, while also cleared up confusion over Luton's second goal.
Midfielder Asa Hall capitalised on Plymouth substitute Jamie Mackie's error, before surging towards the box and shooting for goal.
Goalkeeper Graham Stack managed to a get a hand on the midfielder's shot, but could not prevent it from rolling over the line, with Plummer seemingly adding the final touch.
Harford said: "Plummer is claiming that goal.
"He is a great kid to have around and I have spoken to Gary Johnson at Bristol City to tell him how he is getting on.
"It was his full league debut for us at the weekend and his cup debut tonight and he's a lively lad who is doing well."
On Nicholls, he said: "I'd take Kevin Nicholls anywhere I went.
"He is the heartbeat of the team, he's passionate and he drives the players on. He's an inspiration around the place and tonight he proved that he wants to do well for the club."
